Monday Mood Music: Inspired by the Arctic Monkeys

I first found out about the Arctic Monkeys when I was 16 or so. I heard Fluorescent Adolescent and felt something magical. Maybe it was the dreamy, old-timey voice of Alex Turner or the bluntness of the lyrics, but I fell in love. It’s good for when you’re sad, pissed, happy, or “in the mood”. Here are my five favorites:

5. No. 1 Party Anthem

Call off the search for your soul, or put it on hold again
She’s having a sly indoor smoke
She calls the folks who run this her oldest friends
Sipping her drink and laughing at imaginary jokes

4. Arabella

Arabella’s got a 70’s head
But she’s a modern lover
It’s an exploration, she’s made of outer space
And her lips are like the galaxy’s edge
And her kiss the colour of a constellation falling into place
3. Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts

But she’s not nice, she’s pretty fucking far from nice
She’s looking at you funny rarely looking at you twice

2. Do I Wanna Know?

So have you got the guts?
Been wondering if your heart’s still open and if so I wanna know what time it shuts
Simmer down and pucker up
I’m sorry to interrupt. It’s just I’m constantly on the cusp of trying to kiss you
I don’t know if you feel the same as I do
But we could be together if you wanted to

1. Fluorescent Adolescent

Flicking through a little book of sex tips
Remember when the boys were all electric?
Now, when she tells she’s gonna get it
I’m guessing that she’d rather just forget it
