Here’s a game for all of my ex-lovers: I’m going to make a list of songs that remind me of you. I’m going to keep you anonymous but describe the scene in which we heard the song together. I hope this post touches you all. I’m not going to list everyone I’ve ever dated or had sex with. But I’ve picked the prominent ones that I have also *secretly* written about or alluded to throughout the blog.
Let’s see if you guys were actually paying attention 😉
1. “Pretty Young Thing” by Michael Jackson
You little twat. You sang this to me at Cucina and spun me around all night. For the next few weeks, you called me “PYT”. You suck, though.
2.. “Go Insane” by Flume
We were driving to dinner in your two seater car. It was dark out and it seemed like we were the only ones driving on the palm tree lined street. I will never forget that moment: You, with one hand on my thigh and the other on the steering wheel, and me, feeling like I was in a dream.
3. “Faded” by Zhu
We met in Amsterdam and got hooked up by mutual friends in LA. I had been listening to this all day and we danced to it at some club before sneaking away from our friends.
4. “Gooey” by “Glass Animals”
This one may give it away completely. He definitely knows who he is. You sang this to me on Valentine’s Day and said “I love you” for the first time.
5. “Own It” by Drake
I played this song as we drove to your house. At this point, we had broken up but we were friends. After a drink or two, you put this song on, pinned me against the wall, kissed me passionately, and said, “This sounds like lovemaking music” before walking away like nothing happened.
6. “I Need My Girl” by The National
You played this for me when you dropped me off at the airport. You refused to let go of my hand and I couldn’t stop crying. Not because we were so in love ,but because we were more in love with the memories we had shared.
7. “5 Minutes” by Her
We sat together in your loft and drank shitty vodka. You turned to me and said,
“You are so beautiful, Megan. You are my drug”
8. “Get Free” by Major Lazer
This was playing at our friends apartment in Tokyo. We got drunk off of chu hi’s and went to some weird club.
9. “Back to the Start” by Mr.Little Jeans
Our relationship was purely carnal and we both had the most ravenous sex drives. What’s ironic is that we always listened to romantic/sad music while we had crazy sex.
10. “September” by Earth, Wind, & Fire
We had been friends for awhile and finally decided to sleep together. While we were doing the deed and trying to be sexy, this song came on and we couldn’t stop laughing. There is nothing funnier than hearing, “ba de ya, DANCING IN SEPTEMBER, ah yee aahhhh” when you’re trying to get it on.
So… Who do you think is who?
