Miami Swim Week Day One: An Interview with… Joanna of Joanna Paige

South Beach has that NYC vibe going on right now. The city is infused with that “I can do anything” magic and topped with extra humidity.

It’s not just the weather that’s making everyone hot. IT’S SWIM WEEK!!! If you’re not in a bikini right now then what are you even doing?

Last night was great. Jenny, Lucy, Rachel, and I drove down to Miami from Palm Beach. The whole way down we were wondering why all four of us haven’t hung out as a group together before because of how well we clicked.

~Side note: your vibe is literally your tribe.~

We checked into the Catalina Hotel and laid out all of our Miami sexy clothes. What I love so much about Miami is that anything goes. You can wear a teeny bikini top and jeans and nobody will think twice about you. It’s wild n’ out fun.

I went to bed fairly early at 11:30 PM because I knew I had to be up early for a very exciting interview. I have been communicating with Joanna from Joanna Paige for a couple weeks now and I am basically in love with her. I found out about her shop on Racked Miami and I asked if we could do an interview/collaboration when I came down. When she agreed, I clapped my hands like the fangirl I am.

How would I describe Joanna? First of all, that’s a difficult question because she’s extremely unique. She’s one of those people you meet and think to yourself, “Why isn’t she in Paris or New York?”. She has that natural It-Factor. After talking to her for 10 minutes, you can already tell she’s brilliant and loves what she does.

UGH! AND THE STORE! Probably the most aesthetically pleasing place in the world. It’s very neat and simplistic yet there is a funky feel to it. Everything is laid out in a fun way but it looks like it’s supposed to be there. For example, she has a couple bags strewn across the ottoman but they’re so perfectly placed that you don’t think anything of it. Definitely an Insta-worthy location.

After we finished our interview, JP asked me to pick out my favorite things. I chose a gorgeous Loeffler Randall pink and black snakeskin bag and amazing Jeffrey Campbell lace up booties. Joanna topped off the look with a Vanessa Mooney harness necklace and a bunch of cute silver rings.

I fell so in love with the VM necklace that I had to buy it. Joanna’s cute little sales associate rang me up and Rachel and I gave Joanna hugs goodbye. I had so much fun talking to Joanna and trying on all of the different cool items. Definitely going to have to show Brandon her store for um… future *gift* reference.

Thank you so much for the interview, Joanna!

M:To start, tell us about yourself.

JP: My name is Joanna. I was born and raised in Miami. I have a family business which is a contemporary shoe store. My family has always been in the shoe business so it just kind of happened? (giggles)

M: Can you tell us a bit more about Joanna Paige as a brand?

JP: Joanna Paige is a contemporary but trendy, fast-fashion shoe store where you can find different unique items from different brands like Jeffrey Campbell who we do exclusives with, Schutz which is a Brazilian line we do really well with and they’re huge right now. We love Moschino which you can’t find a lot of places and a bunch more brands.

M: Who are some of your favorite designers?

JP: I love Jeffrey Campbell, Vanessa Mooney, Loeffler Randall… Those are brands we carry here and I’m wearing Loeffler Randall right now… Obviously clothing brands are different (laughs). I kind of have a really bad shopping habit.

Rachel peers up from her phone and responds with, “Girl, you are preaching to the choir”

M:What trends are you obsessed with right now?

JP:I’m really happy that the 70’s retro, boho-vintage, denim-thing is coming back. I really like denim (motioning to her dress). All the chunky heels, platforms, clogs and fun stuff like that… Crochet, pastels but like also crazy patterns. There’s a lot of cool stuff happening with fashion right now even though it’s going from like archives and stuff, it’s still getting a fun and fresh twist. It’s the same thing with basics! Now, it’s cool to wear basics and it’s easier to style them.

M:Who’s style do you admire the most?

JP: Sophia Amoruso!  Seriously, love her. I’m one of those nerds who went to her book signing and, like, listened to her speak.

M:What shows/events are you looking forward to this weekend?

JP: Super excited for Wildfox and Clover Canyon. I’m going to a bunch of shows tonight with one of my best friend’s/blogger OJ&Cigs, who is a true JP babe and the face you usually see on our Instagram, so that’ll be really fun.

M:Do you have any exciting projects coming up?

JP: Well we always do collaborations with Jeffrey Campbell and have a lot of new exclusives coming in that we are really excited about, including some awesome velvet styles! We are doing something fun during Art Basel with Superga, which is really cool because they do a lot of great collaborations and their next one is with an artist who has a local studio in Miami.

Follow Joanna at @joannapaige and be sure to stop by her cute shop at  Mary Brickell Village (900 South Miami Avenue #182 ,Miami, Florida 33130)

Amazing, right?

Alright, I’m going to get back to mojitos and time with my babes. See you all at the Wildfox event tonight 🙂

Ciao.
